At Éponine, sustainability is a key consideration in all aspects of our business. We are constantly working to innovate and improve our packaging, combining beauty, elegance and functionality with environmental responsibility.
The majority of our packaging is biodegradable, compostable, or can be recycled. The following guide details how best to dispose of our most common packaging materials.
Postal Boxes
Our postal boxes come in a wide range of sizes and styles, all made of white or brown cardboard which can be recycled with your paper waste. We use paper tape wherever possible, which can be left in place and recycled with the box. If your box is sealed with clear plastic tape, please remove as much of this as possible before recycling.
Packing Peanuts
The white packing peanuts used to pad out your postal box are made of corn starch and are 100% compostable and biodegradable. These can be placed in your food waste bin or composted.
Tissue Paper
The tissue paper your items are wrapped in to protect them in transit is acid-free and chlorine-free, 100% recyclable and biodegradable, and can be recycled with paper waste.
Courier Bags
If your parcel was delivered by courier, it may arrive in one of their branded bags. These are made of recyclable plastic and can be recycled with your plastic waste.
Card & Paper Packaging
Our card product packaging (including our rigid chocolate boxes) can be placed into your paper recycling. Please see the “Additional Information” tab in the individual product listing on our website for more detailed packaging information.
Bags & Pouches
Most of our clear bags are made from a plastic-free cellulose film which is 100% compostable and biodegradable, so can be placed in your food waste bin or composted. This will be indicated by a sticker on the bag itself, or on the back label of the product. Please see the “Additional Information” tab in the individual product listing on our website for more detailed packaging information.
Ribbons
We have sourced sustainable ribbons made from recycled plastic bottles, which helps to reduce the amount of post-consumer plastic entering landfill or damaging our waterways. Please separate these from any card tags or other packaging before recycling them.
Chilled Packaging
During hot weather, we may use ice packs and insulated bags to keep your items cool in the post. These can be re-used, but are not currently recyclable. An inner pouch will also be used to protect items from condensation. The pouches are made from 100% recycled plastic and can be widely recycled with plastic waste.
The above recycling suggestions are applicable in most areas of the UK.
If you are unsure, please check your with local recycling authority as facilities may vary.
